academic term approaches.
. Nearly 50%
of teachers surveyed by the party in England indicated their intention to leave
the classroom within the next five years, citing feelings of being overworked
and stressed
The Lib Dems
are calling on the new Education Secretary, Lucy Powell, to ensure full funding
for teachers' salaries instead of depleting school budgets to accommodate pay
increases, and to implement restrictions on overtime.

for Education reported that the previous year marked the lowest rate of
teachers exiting the profession since 2010, yet acknowledged that there is
"more to do.
" The survey queried over 900 teachers, headteachers, and Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs) throughout England regarding their plans to remain in the teaching field. Almost half of the respondents indicated they were contemplating leaving the profession within the next five years, while one in ten planned to remain in the role for less than a year.
