Iran Ready for ‘Doomsday War’? FM Araghchi Warns U.S. as Tensions Rise

Iran is warning that it is prepared for a possible new military confrontation with the United States, while at the same time saying that diplomacy remains on the table.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made the warning during an interview with NBC News’ Meet the Press.

Araghchi said Iran is fully prepared if the conflict with the United States resumes. He also said Tehran would stand firm against any new aggression, even if the situation escalates into what he described as a “doomsday war.”

The statement comes at a particularly tense moment between Washington and Tehran.

According to recent reports, Iran has proposed an arrangement connected to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.

Tehran has said it is prepared to restore normal maritime passage through the strait under a broader agreement. Iran has also demanded the release of frozen Iranian funds and assets and the ability to resume oil sales.

But U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal, according to reports.

The disagreement has created another major obstacle to diplomacy.

Araghchi, however, said Iran is still prepared to negotiate. He indicated that Tehran's position is not simply about preparing for war, but also about keeping open a possible diplomatic path.

The Iranian foreign minister said the decision now depends on Washington and President Trump.

The latest statements come after Trump delivered strong warnings about Iran during the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Trump has repeatedly demanded an agreement addressing the conflict and Iran's nuclear program, while Iranian officials have continued to reject what they describe as unacceptable conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a central issue in the confrontation.

The waterway is critical to global energy markets because a significant amount of the world's oil and gas shipments normally pass through the region.

Any prolonged disruption could create wider economic consequences, particularly for energy prices and international shipping.

For now, both sides are sending conflicting signals.

Iran is warning that it is prepared for another military confrontation, while also saying it does not want to close the door to diplomacy.

The United States, meanwhile, has rejected Iran's latest proposal and continues to maintain pressure on Tehran.

That leaves the situation highly uncertain.

The key question now is whether Washington and Tehran can find a diplomatic agreement, or whether the current confrontation will move toward another round of military escalation.

News 12 Channel will continue to follow developments as more information becomes available.
