The fleet was under surveillance by HMS Duncan, HMS St Albans, and HMS Severn, with support from a Merlin helicopter, according to officials. The Russian destroyer Admiral Levchenko was seen escorting the cargo vessels General Skobelev and Sparta, both of which are subject to sanctions, towards Dover. In retaliation, Russia dispatched its own military assets, including the Neustrashimy frigate, to protect the shipment.
