APC’s Igbinedion wins Ovia by-election in Edo
The All Progressives Congress's Omosede Igbinedion has been proclaimed the victor of Saturday's by-election in Edo State's Ovia Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Dennis Idahosa, who had previously served as the representative for Ovia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, was elected deputy governor in September 2024, leaving the National Assembly seat empty.
According to Professor Clement Ighodalo, the Returning Officer for the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, the APC candidate received 77,053 votes in total, winning the race.
He stated that Dr. Sandra Asemota, the Action Democratic Congress candidate, received 925 votes to finish first and second, respectively, while Johnny Aikpitanyi, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, received 3,838 votes.
