Macron's diplomatic offensive in Moscow

If it is true that there will be no shooting as long as the opponents are sitting at the negotiating table, then Emmanuel Macron's visit to Moscow on Monday serves the purpose of buying time in the face of a potential threat of ware. France heads the Council of the European Union this six-month period, giving the French head of state some legitimacy to lead a diplomatic offensive by European countries. 

A week later, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will travel to Ukraine and Russia to use his political weight.
